Austin Film Society invites you to meet Julia Halperin & Jason Cortlund, the filmmakers behind NOW, FORAGER, a film about love and fungi. AFS featured the film as a Narratives-in-Progress in 2011 and we are excited to host this unique salon to learn more about the movie and artists behind it while enjoying some of the finest local food in town.
Guests will enjoy dinner sourced from local food purveyor Farmhouse Delivery and prepared by Sonya Coté, executive chef of Austin favorites East Side Show Room and Hillside Farmacy. Sonya and Farmhouse have crafted a locally-sourced menu inspired by the foods featured in NOW, FORAGER. Julia and Jason will select and discuss excerpts from the film, which examines local foraging and the sustainability of small-scale food production through the lens of a Basque couple in New York.
Special screening and culinary event as part of Fusebox's Digestible Feats progrm. The film will be followed by a menu by chef Louis Sheppard of Hopfields. Working with Mike Rivera of Fatback Boucherie and Tink Pinkard, Austin-area outfitter and forager, he'll feature beautifully executed dishes created from locally sourced wild ingredients. Louis blends classic French technique with an appreciation of wild ingredients and flavors, Mike brings creole and cajun flavors to expertly butchered and cured meats, and Tink's knowledge of wild seasonal deliciousness is unmatched. This is dinner and a movie taken to the highest level.
